Cataracts are a clouding of the crystalline lens. Many factors can cause cataract development. Most common of which is UV radiation. Always remember to wear sunglasses. Not all sunglasses are 100% UV protective, so make certain to pick polarized sunglasses with full UV protection. Smoking is also linked to cataract development, so if you smoke quitting is a good move. Risk factors for developing cataracts include diabetes, prolonged exposure to sunlight, tobacco use and alcohol consumption.
